Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe with various regions containing astounding natural wonders. It consists of green lowlands, small plateaus and the beautiful Carpathian Mountains located to the west in the country. This former Soviet Republic country is filled with resonant history, seen through Soviet style buildings, diverse modern architecture and robust indoor markets flooded with candied nuts and sweet dried fruits.
Throughout the country you can witness the beautiful golden-domed churches which, during winter, are dusted with frosty white snow. During the winter season, this Eastern European country also hosts one of my favorite European Christmas markets.
Furthermore, Ukraine is home to numerous UNESCO world heritage sites, such as the pastel colored Saint Sophia Cathedral, located in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. In Kiev you’ll find several cosy underground malls, containing artisanal shops, and excellent trendy restaurants to explore. From vegan cuisine to traditional hearty borscht to Frankfurters stuffed inside fried doughnuts, the appetizing food scene in Kiev, Ukraine creates an energetic ambiance with mouthwatering dishes and pungent aromas that float through the streets.
Not to mention, this Eastern European country has one of the deepest metro systems in the world, found in Kiev at the Arsenalna station. Meanwhile Liev, another popular city, is famous for its amazing boutique coffee shops.
This off the beaten path destination of Ukraine is one of my favorite destinations to explore with its diverse culture and natural landscape, there is no wonder why this country attracts a wide range of travelers.
